## AudioPen for Mac and Windows (Detailed)

AudioPen has native desktop apps for Mac (Apple Silicon, M1 or later) and Windows. They are the same product with the same features, including voice typing. Both have two primary modes:

### Voice Typing Mode

Voice typing is the primary mode on the desktop apps. It lets you speak into any text field on your computer. Press a hot key, talk, and text is inserted at your cursor. There is no separate app window to switch to. It works in Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Docs, VS Code, Jira, social media, web forms, and any app with a text field.

Voice typing has two sub-modes:

**Hot Key Press Mode (fastest):**
- Press and hold the hot key to speak. Release when done.
- Clean, formatted text is inserted directly into the active text field.
- Best for quick replies, search queries, and anything where speed matters most.

**AI Rewrite Mode (polished and styled):**
- Double-tap the hot key to start speaking. Tap again when finished.
- The rewriting step happens in the cloud, but nothing is saved. Data is processed and immediately discarded.
- Text is rewritten in a style of your choice, then inserted at your cursor.
- Best for emails, long-form writing, and anything where tone and clarity matter.

**Choosing how voice typing transcribes:**
- There is always an offline option. Turn it on and transcription runs on your device, so audio never leaves the machine.
- You can also pick cloud transcription. The choice is yours, and you can change it.

### Desktop Voice Typing Use Cases

- **Emails:** Compose replies in Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail. Speak your response, get a polished draft.
- **Slack and messaging:** Voice-type in Slack, Teams, Discord, or iMessage. Faster than thumbs, clearer than autocomplete.
- **Documents:** Draft in Google Docs, Notion, Obsidian, or any writing app. Think out loud, write it down.
- **Code comments and PRs:** Leave meaningful code reviews and PR descriptions without breaking your flow.

### Notes Mode (on desktop)

Triple-tap the hotkey to record a thought and save it to your AudioPen notes library. It gets processed just like it does on the web, classic AudioPen style. Notes sync across devices, so you can pick them up on web, iOS, or Android. Notes mode always uploads audio to AudioPen's servers for processing. The offline option applies to voice typing, not to notes.

## Privacy and Security

AudioPen takes privacy seriously. Here are the specifics per mode:

**Voice typing on Mac, Windows, and the iOS keyboard:**
- You choose how transcription runs. There is always an offline option, and with it turned on, audio is processed on your device and never leaves the machine.
- If you choose cloud transcription instead, audio is sent for processing and is not stored.

**Voice typing in AI Rewrite mode:**
- The rewriting step sends text to the cloud whichever transcription option you pick, but none of the data is stored. It is processed and immediately discarded.

**Notes mode (web, iOS, Android, Mac, Windows):**
- Voice notes are always uploaded to AudioPen's servers for processing. All voice notes are auto-deleted from servers soon after they are processed. The offline option does not apply to notes.

**General privacy commitments:**
- All data is encrypted at rest.
- Data is never shared with other users or AI providers.
- User data is not used to train any AI models.
- Voice recordings, transcriptions, and text stay private.
