The best speech to text apps for Android
Your keyboard's microphone types what you said. A floating bubble writes it for you, in any app. Seven Android apps compared, with offline and price.
The short answer: keep your keyboard's microphone for quick replies, and add AudioPen's floating bubble for anything someone else will read. The bubble sits over the keyboard you already use, works in any app, and writes up what you say in the style you pick.
Which Android speech to text apps work in any app?
Your phone probably has speech to text already. Android apps get your words into other apps in three ways.
- The microphone key on your keyboard. Gboard and Samsung Keyboard both have one, so speech to text is built into many Android phones, and it works in most places you can type.
- A floating bubble over your keyboard. AudioPen, Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper and Aqua Voice add a small button at the edge of the screen. You keep your keyboard, tap the bubble in any app and talk.
- A voice add-on for your keyboard. FUTO Voice Input plugs into keyboards that support Android's standard voice input.
To type into other apps, AudioPen's bubble asks for two permissions: showing over other apps, and accessibility access. It never appears in password fields, it doesn't read or store anything else on your screen, and you can turn both permissions off in Android's settings.
Meeting apps like Otter work differently. Otter's Google Play listing offers to copy a transcript to the clipboard or share it into other apps.
Which Android voice typing apps remove filler words?
The microphone keys type what you said, ums included. Google's page on Advanced voice typing lists punctuation and rewriting by voice, and says nothing about filler words. Aqua Voice says its model “drops the ums.” Wispr Flow removes filler words on a computer, and its Android setup page doesn't say whether the bubble does.
The ums are the easy part. Talk through a reply and you also get the false starts and the sentence you began twice. That's fine in a note to yourself. It reads badly in an email to someone else, and fixing it by hand eats the time talking saved.
With AudioPen's bubble, you decide what comes back:
“They can choose whatever style they want it to be written in. So they could get a plain transcript if they want, or they can get it written in any style in their library.”
Our guide to the best dictation apps covers the same choice on every device.

Prices are for one person for a year, from each maker's website on October 27, 2026. AudioPen's is the web price, and app store prices can differ. Google's Gboard voice typing help page and Samsung's don't say whether it works offline, and neither does SuperWhisper's Android page. No app paid to be here. After AudioPen, the list is in no particular order.
What are the best speech to text apps for Android?
1.AudioPen
Best for: Texts, emails and posts other people read, in any app
AudioPen's Android app puts a small bubble beside your keyboard. Tap it in any app, talk, and the text lands where you were typing. The same app records voice notes into your AudioPen library, and one account works on iPhone, Mac, Windows and the web too.
Stands out: The bubble uses any style in your library, including ones you write yourself. Every style works on the free plan.
2.Gboard voice typing
Best for: Quick replies on an Android phone
At the top of the keyboard, tap the microphone and talk. Google says you can talk to write “in most places where you can type with a keyboard.” Say “period”, “comma” or “new line” for punctuation.
Stands out: On a Pixel 6 or later, Advanced voice typing adds punctuation as you speak. On a Pixel 9 or later, except the 9a, you can rewrite text by voice.
Falls short: You get your words exactly as you said them, so the tidying up is yours.
3.Samsung Keyboard voice input
Best for: Galaxy owners who keep Samsung Keyboard
Tap the microphone at the bottom left of Samsung Keyboard and talk. In Samsung's words, “your voice will be translated into words.”
Stands out: You can also pick Google Voice Typing instead of Samsung's own voice input.
Falls short: It's tied to Samsung Keyboard, so it's gone the day you switch keyboards. And like Gboard, it types your words as they come out.
4.Wispr Flow
Best for: People who already use Wispr Flow on a computer
Tap the Flow Bubble at the edge of the screen and talk. The bubble hides when the keyboard closes, and it stays out of password, number and phone fields and some banking apps.
Stands out: Pro includes dictation on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, at $15 a month, or $12 a month on yearly billing. We cover more options in Wispr Flow alternatives.
Falls short: Auto Cleanup, which removes filler words, is documented for Mac and Windows only. On Android, “Offline devices cannot start dictation.”
5.SuperWhisper
Best for: Custom modes on a newer Android phone
Tap the floating recording button, speak, and your words go into the text field you're using. Modes choose how your words come out, and AI formatting adds punctuation and paragraph breaks.
Stands out: One Pro license covers Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year or $249.99 once. See how it compares in SuperWhisper alternatives.
Falls short: Buy it through Google Play and you pay more than on SuperWhisper's own site.
6.Aqua Voice
Best for: Cleaned-up dictation when you're online
In Aqua's words, it's “a floating button, not a keyboard.” Your words land at the cursor. If an app won't take them, Aqua copies the transcript for you to paste.
Stands out: Its model “punctuates, fixes the grammar, and drops the ums,” and it can rewrite text you select. Pro is $10 a month on yearly billing, or $12 if you pay month to month.
Falls short: It needs an internet connection.
7.FUTO Voice Input
Best for: Voice typing that stays on your phone
FUTO Voice Input isn't a keyboard. It plugs into apps and keyboards that use Android's standard voice input, and FUTO Keyboard, a separate app, has it built in.
Stands out: In FUTO's words, “All processing is done completely offline on your device.” It goes online only to download optional models. It's paid for with a one-time license that also covers FUTO Keyboard.
Falls short: FUTO's site doesn't list what the license costs.
Not on the list: Dragon Anywhere. Other lists still name it, but its Google Play page says “As of July 1, 2026, Dragon Anywhere Mobile is no longer available for sale.” Our Dragon comparison covers the Windows program.
Which Android speech to text apps work offline?
In AudioPen's Android app, offline transcription is a setting you turn on, for voice typing and for notes. Turn it on and your audio stays on the phone. With cloud transcription, voice typing audio is never saved. In voice typing, a rewrite sends the text to the cloud and saves nothing.
FUTO Voice Input runs entirely on the phone. SuperWhisper's free plan uses Whisper models that run on your device, but its Android page doesn't say whether that applies on Android. Wispr Flow and Aqua Voice need an internet connection on Android.
