SuperWhisper alternatives, compared

SuperWhisper alternatives for when a transcript isn't enough

SuperWhisper's free plan will type everything you say, with no cap. Then cleaning it up is on you: its free modes have no AI processing. The apps below differ on price, devices and offline use. AudioPen's free plan does the writing up. Talk it out and get back an email, a list or a note in the style you pick, on your iPad too.

Why people look elsewhere

What starts the search

Paying for the AI modes

With SuperWhisper, the dictation is free and the writing isn’t. Super, Mail and every other mode that rewrites need Pro, at $84.99 a year. In AudioPen, the writing is on the free plan, in every style, custom ones included, with no card. Prime lifts the limits, at $99 for a year on the web.

Writing on an iPad

Your Mac dictates, your iPhone dictates, and then you pick up the iPad. SuperWhisper’s own docs say iPad and Android tablets aren’t supported. The AudioPen keyboard types into any app on iPad, as it does on iPhone, and your notes open in any browser at app.audiopen.ai.

Where the rewrite runs

SuperWhisper can rewrite offline only with S1-mini, a Pro model that’s English only and works in just the Message and Mail modes. Every other AI feature needs the internet. AudioPen’s rewrite runs in the cloud too, and it writes in whatever language you choose. Turn on offline transcription and only text goes up for the rewrite.

Voice typing, in any style

The free plan that writes it up.

On a Mac, double-tap the hotkey in Notion, talk through two contractor quotes for your kitchen, and tap again. What lands at your cursor is the written version, in a built-in style or one you made. As Louis, who makes AudioPen, puts it: "Not a transcript. A rewrite."

Talk the way you think. Start mid-thought, circle back, change your mind halfway through. AudioPen types your exact words when you want them, or writes it up in a style you pick, right at your cursor.

Want to keep a thought instead of typing it somewhere? Record it as a note. With Prime you can restyle it later or upload a recording you made elsewhere. To turn an old recording into text without an account, try the free audio to text converter.

What you say
“ok so kitchen quotes, um, Dan came back at eighty-four hundred, which is more than the first guy, but the tiles are included in his, and he can start on the third, the other one can't start till December, so I think, yeah, I'm leaning Dan, but I need to ask him about the warranty first”
Typed into Notion, in your own style

Kitchen quotes Dan: $8,400, tiles included, can start on the 3rd. First quote: lower, but no start until December. Leaning toward Dan. Next step: ask him about the warranty.

Works in any app, on every device: a hotkey on Mac and Windows, the AudioPen keyboard on iPhone and iPad, and a floating bubble on Android.

What changes when you switch

Here’s what each app is built around, and what you give up or gain if you move to it from SuperWhisper. For the full feature list next to AudioPen’s, read SuperWhisper vs AudioPen, or see all three with Wispr Flow.

Wispr Flow

Cloud dictation that removes filler words and formats your text as it types, with Transforms, in beta, to rewrite selected text with a prompt.

Coming from SuperWhisper: it only transcribes in the cloud, and on a computer the free plan stops at 5,000 words a week.

VoiceInk

Open-source dictation for the Mac, local by default, with custom modes and AI cleanup through a provider you connect.

Coming from SuperWhisper: your Windows PC and Android phone drop out (neither is listed on its site as of October 2026), and a cloud provider you connect for AI cleanup bills you separately from the licence.

Spokenly

Free local dictation, Linux included, plus a Pro plan for hosted cloud models and AI.

Coming from SuperWhisper: your Android phone drops out, your history stays on each device, and syncing your settings between devices costs $29 once (Local+).

Spokenly vs AudioPen

Aqua Voice

Cloud dictation on its own speech model, Avalon, with an Edit Mode that rewrites selected text when you say what to change. Its Android app arrived on October 6, 2026.

Coming from SuperWhisper: you trade local models for the cloud, so it needs a connection, and the 1,000 free words don't reset.

Where AudioPen works

One account, every device.

Voice type into any app on Mac and Windows, use the AudioPen keyboard on iPhone and iPad, tap the floating bubble on Android, or open your notes in the web app.

One Prime account covers all of them. Your notes sync across every device, so whatever you capture on one is waiting on the next.

Testimonials

Loved by people who think out loud

Read what real users have to say about AudioPen.

I used to manually summarize my transcribed brainstorming sessions. Took hours. AudioPen automates everything to the point where I am almost done with my article after talking about a topic for 10min. Magic.
Arvid Kahl · @arvidkahl
No product has fundamentally changed the way I work over the last 12 months more than Audiopen. Home Screen on iPhone.
Sidin · @sidin
I can now create 95% of my blog posts and have minimal editing. In my tone of voice. This saves so much time
Vincent · @vincenthaywood
I’ve been using AudioPen to talk through my ideas, have them summarized and then use the summarization as a draft for blog posts. 13 out of 10. Highly recommend for the “blank page” problem.
chase adams · @curiouslychase
This is probably the best product I’ve come across in the past 18 months. So useful and it just keeps getting better.
Dave O’Callaghan · @OCallaghanDavid
Simple, but effective. The best tool to convert rambling into structured text, while keeping what you rambled intact.
Murali Balaraman · Founder, Studio CX360
I freakin love AudioPen.ai. If you are not using it yet, get on it.
Mr. Fettfinger
Most helpful AI tool = audiopen. Been using it daily to do things like: turn voicenotes into action items, content ideas (magic for this), summarize calls, giving feedback. The UI is also so clean that it’s an absolute joy to use.
Cathryn Lavery · @cathrynlavery
You speak to it as thoughts come in. It stitches a fine narrative from the rant. Writers can edit a ‘wrong’ page, not a ‘blank’ page. AudioPen gets you to 90% and then you do the rest.
Joseph Jude · @jjude
OH MY GOSH. I just learned about AudioPen today, and it’s already a GAME CHANGER. If you write, create, or do any serious thinking, this tool is for you.
Bear Smith · @RealBearSmith
This is one tool that has dramatically changed the way I think. It has allowed me to get the thoughts out of my head and down on paper.
Melvyn Tan · @melvyndotme
I can’t say enough good things about the AudioPen app. It’s been my go-to app for getting ideas down without having to type. Not only does it arrange even the most inarticulate nonsense into readable sentences, it’s the best dictation app I’ve ever used.
Otis Frampton · @otisframpton
I’ve been writing online for over 10 years and tried virtually every writing app, productivity, note-taking, and idea-capture system out there. Nothing comes close to the amount of time AudioPen saves me.
Trying Not to Suck at Life · @trynotsuck
This is by far the greatest and most useful tool I have ever had! I have severe ADHD and it’s able to translate my rambling into a well written and concise note. I feel more organized and less anxious!
Kristen Doutsas · Aesthetician, entrepreneur

Tried it out, and paid for the prime version because it is SO good and simple to use. The product has made it so much easier to track my various thoughts throughout my day.
Maya · @buildwithmaya
I am a natural speaker. My ideas flow faster when I speak. I record my voice notes and with my accent, it is perfect all the time.
Ash Ravikumar
AudioPen is able to clear my spoken thoughts into text in Estonian, one of the most complicated languages in the world! Shut Up And Take My Money!
Reigo Kimmel · YouTube expert, AI enthusiast
Already not sure what I did before I had AudioPen. If you often have thoughts you want to capture in writing, check it out. Cost is super reasonable too.
